Chelan County is moving ahead with plans to increase controls on nightly vacation rentals in the unincorporated area of Chelan County. New commissioner, Bob Bugert, and Community Development Director David Kuhl have been meeting with businesses and residents to gather input on this issue. Commissioner Bugert said that the biggest problems with nightly rentals are in Manson, Peshastin, Plain and the unincorporated areas of Leavenworth.
The County is considering hiring an outside company to handle the tracking of rentals and some of the compliance issues. The County does not have enough staff to do this. When a draft ordinance is available, the County Planning Commission will have a public comment period. Then they will submit a recommendation to the County Commissioners. The County plans to complete this project in the summer.
